Short answer: The Readout is a paid in depth report of your complete VA file by a VA-accredited representative on the VetsForever team. They pull your records through authorized VBMS access, read every page, and give you a plain-language summary of what’s in your file, what’s missing, and what may have been overlooked, in 5 to 10 days. It’s $1,000, one time, and the findings are yours to keep.
You already know your C-file is the record the VA used to decide your rating. (New to that? Start with What’s in Your VA C-File) The problem is seeing it. Request it yourself and you wait 9 to 12 months, then read hundreds of pages alone. The Readout closes that gap.

What is The Readout?
The Readout is a VA C-file review done by a VA-accredited representative. They pull your complete file, read every page, and hand you a plain-language summary of what’s in your file, what’s missing, and what may have been overlooked.
You keep the summary. You decide what’s next. There’s no obligation to use VetsForever for anything after.
It’s $1,000, one time. No subscription.
How does The Readout work, step by step?
Four steps, start to finish:
- You order the Readout and sign two short forms. A VA Form 21-22a and a Readout Agreement. Together they let a VetsForever representative access your records and keep the work limited to your Readout. A couple of minutes each.
- We pull your complete C-file from the VA. Authorized VBMS access is what skips the standard 9-to-12-month queue.
- A VA-accredited representative reads every page. Not skimmed. Not run through software. Read, then written up.
- You get your plain-language summary, typically in 5 to 10 days. What’s in your file, what’s missing, what may have been overlooked. Yours to keep.
The Readout vs. requesting your file yourself
| Request it yourself | The Readout | |
|---|---|---|
| Wait time | 9 to 12 months | 5 to 10 days |
| Who reads it | You do | A VA-accredited representative |
| What you get back | Hundreds of raw pages | A plain-language summary of what’s there, what’s missing, what may have been overlooked |
| VBMS access | No | Yes, authorized |
| Cost | Free, but slow | $1,000, one time |
Who reads your file, and why accreditation matters
There’s no shortage of coaches, consultants, and claim services online offering to help veterans. Most have never seen your actual file and very likely never will. They work from what you tell them, not from the record the VA actually used.
A VA-accredited representative is different. Accreditation means meeting the federal standard to represent veterans before the VA. VetsForever’s accreditation gives us authorized access to VBMS, the VA’s own records system. That access is how our representative reads the same file the VA read.
VetsForever is veteran-founded and veteran-run. The people reading your file have been through the system themselves.
How long does The Readout take?
Five to ten days.
Request your records from the VA yourself and you’re often waiting 9 to 12 months, then left to interpret hundreds of pages on your own. Because our representatives have authorized VBMS access, your plain-language summary comes back in 5 to 10 days.
What do you get for $1,000?
Your entire VA file, read end to end by a VA-accredited representative. Not skimmed. Not run through software. Read. Then written up in plain language you can use, and yours to keep.
Take it to your VSO. Hand it to another attorney. Rework your claim yourself. Or bring it back to VetsForever and ask us to advocate for you. That’s your call, after you’ve seen what’s in your file. If you do move forward with representation, $500 of the Readout applies toward it.
What The Readout is not:
The Readout is a findings summary. It shows you what’s in your record. It does NOT promise an outcome or a rating change, and it isn’t legal advice or claims preparation. It tells you what’s actually there, so your next move isn’t a guess.
Frequently asked questions
What is The Readout? A paid VA C-file review by a VA-accredited representative. They read your full file and give you a plain-language summary of what’s in it, what’s missing, and what may have been overlooked.
How much does The Readout cost? $1,000, one time. No subscription. If you later move forward with VetsForever representation, $500 of it applies toward that representation.
How long does it take? Typically 5 to 10 days from when we receive your two signed forms, compared to 9 to 12 months if you request the file yourself.
Is The Readout legal advice? No. It’s a findings summary of what’s in your record. It does not promise an outcome or a rating change.
Will The Readout tell me if my rating is wrong? It tells you what’s in your file, what’s missing, and what may have been overlooked. It doesn’t promise a rating change or predict an outcome. What you do with the findings is your call.
Do I have to work with VetsForever afterward? No. The findings are yours the day they’re delivered. You owe nothing else and can take them anywhere.
Do I need to have been denied to get a Readout? No. Denied veterans, underrated veterans, and veterans who’ve been at this for years all use it. If you don’t know what’s in your file, the Readout applies to you.
Who reads my file? A VA-accredited representative with authorized VBMS access. Not a coach. Not an unaccredited claim service.
How do I get started? Order the Readout or book a 15-minute session. From there it’s two short forms, and your summary is back in 5 to 10 days.
Know what’s in your file.
You’ve waited long enough to know what the VA used to decide your claim.
The Readout puts it in plain language, in your hands, in days.
Legal Disclaimer: The Readout provides a summary of findings from your C-file and does not constitute legal advice or claims preparation. VetsForever’s Readout is an informational product. Results may vary. Veterans are encouraged to consult with a VA-accredited representative or attorney before taking action on their claim. If a veteran subsequently engages VetsForever’s full representation service, $500 of The Readout cost will be credited one time against the attorney fees VetsForever earns on any past-due benefits (back pay) recovered through that representation, as set forth in VetsForever’s standard fee agreement.
